Thanks to Maridvnvm at Forvm and the Forvm Fake Reports, I recently discovered a coin I bought almost a year ago is a cast fake. A copy of the same sold recently on ebay for £205, and the same crooks have another copy listed with the same picture right now. The difference between the unfortunate ebay buyer and myself is that I bought mine from a reputable dealer on Vcoins, and I am in the process of getting a full refund, while the ebay purchaser will almost certainly never have their money refunded.
The moral of this story is to buy from reputable dealers. Yes, they are human and can make mistakes, but when they do, you can get your money back. On the other hand, ebay will actually profit from the fraud perpetrated against you. They will get their fee and you will get an automated email after you complain, but that’s probably about it. So unless you are very knowledgeable and experienced, or know the dealer well, be very cautious about where you buy your coins.
Special thanks to Joe at Forvm for doing a service for the hobby and hosting the Fake Coin Reports. If you haven’t seen it before, you may want to check it out.
A quick note, or rather a warning, to my fellow webmasters out there. If you search the availability of domain names at Network Solutions, they will put a four day hold on whatever name you searched for. You will not be able to register it elsewhere. You will only be able to register it at Network Solutions for their exorbitant registration fee. When they do release it, you may still not get it.
